I was raised in Rocky Mount NC.  I graduated high school in Nash County, and worked for the Rocky Mount Police Dept. for two years.  In 1983, I began work as a police officer in Morehead City NC.

In 1984, I married my wife Karen.  We have now been married for over 35 years.  We have two grown children, both married and three beautiful grandchildren.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Wesleyan College and worked my way up through the ranks as patrol officer, detective, patrol supervisor, division commander and director of operations.  After 12 years, I left the police department to pursue other business interests.  In 1995,  I opened The Shepherd’s Shoppe Christian Book Store in Jacksonville.  I owned and operated this retail business for ten years, then sold the business to enter the real estate profession

Since 2005, I have been in business as a real estate broker associated with Century 21 Champion Real Estate.  My job is to help clients buy and sell real estate and to find solutions to the many issues that develop during a real estate transaction.  To provide the best service to my clients, I have been active in the administration of real estate industry and have earned designations including;  Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR), Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) and Certified Short Sale Specialist (CSSS).  I served for six years on the board of directors of the Jacksonville Board of Realtors and served as President in 2013.  I have served on the legislative committee of the North Carolina Association of Realtors and as Legislative Chair for the Jacksonville Board of Realtors.  I was instrumental in starting a new Multiple Listing Service Corporation known as the NC Regional MLS, LLC to serve over 4600 Realtors and nine Realtor associations in eastern North Carolina.  I currently serve as treasurer on the board of the corporation.  I also serve as treasurer of the North Carolina Real Estate Education Foundation, Inc., a cooperation dedicated to promoting real estate education in North Carolina.

Aside from my professional duties, I serve the Jacksonville community as Chairman of the Salvation Army Board of Advisors, where I have served for nine years, and as president of the Jacksonville Rotary Club, where I have been a member and director for over ten years.  I am a member, deacon and the worship leader at Blue Creek Baptist Church, where I have served for about 20 years.

My entire adult life has been dedicated to serving the public and my community.  Whether to protect and serve in law enforcement, provide wholesome family products at retail, help with real estate needs and issues or help those under-privileged through the Salvation Army, Rotary Club or Church, Service Above Self has been my motto.  I am honored to take my service to the next level by serving you as county commissioner.  Together we can make Onslow County great by refocusing the budget on essential services, listening to the needs of the citizens, finding way to work together to solve issues and allowing open and honest debate in our decision-making process.
